When the start is hesitant, hold your principles and gather capable companions. Establish shared footing before trying to advance alone.
Hexagram 3
Zhun describes the difficulty of a new beginning: energy has awakened before a workable order exists. Thunder below wants to move while Water above presents danger. The task is to gather support and establish footing, without mistaking early confusion for a doomed direction or enthusiasm for readiness.
Upper trigram: Water/Kǎn
Lower trigram: Thunder/Zhèn
You may be starting a relationship, taking unfamiliar responsibility, or bringing an idea into practice. People, experience, and conditions have not yet aligned. Repeated difficulty can reveal what needs establishing rather than prove that nothing is progressing.
Find dependable help and organize what the beginning actually requires. Allow exploration and adjustment, but avoid chasing several aims at once. Help the new undertaking stand before expecting it to travel far.
Difficulty at the Beginning works supreme success through perseverance. Nothing should be undertaken yet. It furthers one to appoint helpers.
Clouds and thunder: Difficulty at the Beginning. The superior person brings order out of confusion.
Early hesitation can be mistaken for rejection. Allow time to understand each other's circumstances and build trust through clear, proportionate contact before asking for lasting commitment.
Clarify responsibilities and immediate aims before committing greater resources. Ask for experience where yours is missing; carrying everything alone can turn manageable starting problems into lasting obstacles.
Choose a small step that reveals whether support and essential conditions can materialize. An immature opportunity needs cultivation, not an all-or-nothing commitment made before its foundations are visible.
This is an uneven beginning rather than a period of smooth expansion. The line's ten years conveys a long delay; it should not be converted into a personal ten-year forecast.
The lines unfold from the bottom upward, describing one pattern of change from its first appearance to its extreme. If your reading has a changing line, begin with that position.
When the start is hesitant, hold your principles and gather capable companions. Establish shared footing before trying to advance alone.
An approach may seek partnership rather than harm, yet you may keep your own pace. Trust and commitment need time to become credible.
Chasing an attractive goal without guidance leads deeper into confusion. Recognize the missing conditions and be willing to abandon this pursuit.
A credible partnership offers a way out of hesitation. Responding to trustworthy cooperation is more useful than continuing to circle alone.
Resources or goodwill cannot yet reach far. Fulfill modest commitments within your reach instead of promising more than can be delivered.
Circling has become distress rather than useful preparation. Seek help and reconsider direction instead of bearing the same impasse in isolation.
Zhun means neither permanent obstruction nor that every difficult pursuit deserves persistence. Its third line permits abandoning a chase without guidance. Direction and support matter more than proving how much hardship you can endure.
